Power and Handling
The base engine is a 300-horsepower 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four engine with auto stop and start technology and an automatic ten-speed transmission. The standard engine on higher trims is a 3.0-liter V6 engine with 400 horsepower, and an available 310-horsepower 3.3-liter hybrid on select models.
Other optional or standard handling features include trailer sway control, four-wheel drive, engine block heater, and hill descent control. The terrain management system helps you tackle most any terrain with seven drive modes, including deep snow and sand.
Interior and Exterior
Some standard interior features are theCloth seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable driver's seat, power door locks and windows, and 50/50 split-folding seats. Higher trims add heated front seats, upgraded interior trim, ambient interior lighting, leather upholstery, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated second-row seats as standard.
Some notable standard exterior features include 18-inch alloy wheels, body-color rear spoiler, power liftgate, and rear bumper step pad. Higher trims make roof rails, heated exterior mirrors, 20-inch alloy wheels, front tow hooks, and power-folding exterior mirrors standard.
Tech and Safety
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, six speakers, an eight-inch touchscreen, first-row USB ports, and FordPass Connect come standard. Optional or standard features on higher trims include a SiriusXM radio, 12 or 14 speakers, voice-activated touchscreen navigation, HD radio, and dual smart-charging ports.
All Ford Explorer trims come standard with the Ford CoPilot360, which includes features such as rear parking sensors and blind spot monitoring. Higher trims include the Ford CoPilot360 Assist+ package, adding adaptive cruise control with lane centering and evasive steering as standard.
